Seriously, what is the deal with this? They just can’t seem to follow the rules for the Ultimate Universe. Name a rebirth from Ultimate FF. Now The Ultimates. You can’t because it never happened. The only time it ever happened in Ultimate Spider-Man was at the end of volume 2 with the return of Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. Even then though, you never saw Norman die in volume 1… You saw him beg for death after killing Harry and then you see Carol Danvers shoot a gun… you never saw Norman get shot though. So that’s debatable.
My problem now? In The Ultimates 3, in the very first issue, Wanda/Scarlet Witch was assassinated. Dead. We watched it fucking happen. In Ulitmatum was saw Magneto come to Charles Xavier at the Mansion and break his neck. Again, we saw it happen. At the end of Ultimatum, we watched Magneto on his knees as Cyclops vaporize his old ass. Again, there was no mistaking what had happened.
In the Ultimate Universe, the rules are already set. Dead is dead. There is just no getting around that… unless you’re a mutant. Ultimate X-Men is infamous for their deaths/rebirths even in volume 1. It’s fucking annoying. After Ben Grimm went and killed Victor/Dr. Doom, they didn’t bring him back… instead Bendis created a new Dr. Doom out of Reed Richards! When Black Widow killed Jarvis and tried to kill Tony before he killed her, they didn’t bring her back… they got a new one. Wasp? she’s dead, Millar made a new and deadlier version. Peter Parker dies, so they got a new and unique character to fill the void! It’s things like this that sets the Ultimate U apart from 616.
So when I picked up issue six (with this horrible cover) and saw the last page where Rogue was apparently taking orders from none other than this guy:
And now in issue seven (with Wanda on the cover of course) we have this for the last page… Pietro having the same old daddy issues with his alive and kicking daddy. To say that I’m annoyed would be an understatement.
Most people are okay with all of these “rebirths” in Ultimate Comics but I’ve been reading since the beginning and I can’t stand them. They are ruining exactly what made the Ultimate U great. As shitty as Jeph Loeb’s Ultimatum was, it laid the groundwork for the most amazing Universe at Marvel’s disposal. UXM is doing it’s best to ruin that.
Oh, and one other thing Nick Spencer, I noticed that factory where Pietro was making the Magneto helmets. Wolverine killed Jamie Maddrox in Ultimatum. Nice try.
Starting research for a new essay that I’m really looking forward to writing. More info on the Works In Progress page to your right.
The fuck is the deal with this manga/anime wannabe artists making fan art of the Avengers? I mean seriously… I understand some people actually consider block faced, jumbo eyed, cat-eared, 2-D, flat pictures artwork. If you want you subject yourself to that sort of eye-torture then fine. To each their own in that aspect. However you DON’T FUCK WITH REAL ARTISTS. Unlike these Narutard idiots who just saw the movie and thought it was cool, some of us actually care about the comic book and the story.
I know anime/manga is insanely easy to draw, but that does not mean that you have the right to sully my favorite characters with your rigid, block-headed renditions!
Furthermore, I don’t know what the fascination is with anime and gay, but believe it or not, NOT EVERYONE IN THE AVENGERS IS GAY! In fact, the only gay Avengers currently active that I can think of are Wiccan and Hulkling. Neither of which were in the movie. Neither of which is represented in the recent burst of abomination artwork. Also, neither of which are even real Avengers. They Young Avengers.
Captain America and Iron Man are not gay. They have never been written that way and I think that it is very safe to say that they never will be… maybe if Sharon Carter reveals to Steve that she’s really a dude then he might be gay (if you don’t understand what I’m talking about, it is even more reason why you shouldn’t be drawing my heroes). Seriously, the eruption of Cap-on-Stark manga on DeviantArt is unbelievable.
What’s worse than seeing that though? Well it’s seeing the apparent obsession with incest of course! That’s right, I’m talking about this fascination with Thor and Loki getting it on. Why? Just why, dammit? I understand that by being an anime fan you have some warped fantasies (usually involving tentacle sex) but incest? Really? Uncalled for if you ask me.
Please do not take this as ranting of a homophobe because that really isn’t the case. Look, if that were Shatterstar and Rictor making instead of Cap and Stark I’d be cool with it. That’s because their characters make sense and it isn’t some random shock tactic.
So in closing, I do not force my art style down anyone’s throat. You will never see me drawing realistic version of your anime creatures (not that I could even kid myself into being an artist on the same level as some of the comic artists today). So the least you could do is not butcher good art with the cheap feel of anime. Remember, there is a reason why people learn to draw anime first… it’s because any kid can do it. Furthermore, do not insult the characters and the creators by having them do something so out of character. You know, like having two very characteristically straight men switch teams for each other… or having two demigod brothers decide that this whole time they’ve just been repressing their incestuous feelings for each other.
People can look at this in many different ways and I’ve already seen people say that it “isn’t in character” for Spider-Man. Well listen you fickle bunch of un-pleasable mooks, you can’t have it both ways. You complain about same-old and status quo, but here we are presented with a brand new story for ASM and you gotta start griping. Get over it!
Look, this is a new dynamic to Peter Parker. He’s grown up, he’s become an Avenger, he’s got an actual job that puts his science skills to use; the only thing missing is his marriage (which was retconned due to him looking too old). Well enter Andy Maguire, a teenage sidekick and new element to the Web-Heads life. Suddenly there is youth in the book that isn’t Peter Parker.
How can you not be excited but the potential new stories?!? Dan Slott will not let you down.
Let me make clear that I’m not afraid of changes if they stand to make something better or unique. The New 52 was exciting because DC was going down the crapper and it breathed new life into dying books.
Marvel is a good company. They charge more than they should, but they sell quality stories. The Marvel NOW! initiative seemed more like a cheap trick than anything. After this article though I’m pretty pissed. Some of those canceled titles are gimmes, but Fantastic Four!?! Seriously? I know Hickman is leaving it but still, why get rid of a great book?
Isn’t this supposed to take place with the modern X-Men team?
Can they really make this work without Sir Patrick Stewart?
Kitty Pryde was already featured in that one movie that we don’t talk about here, therefore reusing her in the past would be some kind of time continuum contradiction thingy. … Yes, that is the technical term.
Hugh Jackman is still Wolverine. Why is Hugh Jackman still Wolverine?
What does a fanboy have to do to get Fox to stop producing these godawful X-Men movies? Can Disney/Marvel Studios just make a nice big offer and buy the franchise back already? I mean they have 1 good movie (First Class), 1 alright (X-Men) movie, 1 almost acceptable (X2: X-Men United), and 2 shitstorms. Odds are it will be a three shitstorms once The Wolverine comes out.
Please… for the love of all that is Kirby, just stop.
So Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead; Ultimate X-Men) has hinted at the big one-double-zero being a game changer, but this… this is just ridiculous. How many teasers are really necessary? I mean, if anyone has read The Walking Dead (hell, if anyone has even seen the show) then they know that when Kirkman says anyone can die then he means it. Now while I highly doubt that he’d kill the title character I can’t ignore the fact that it’s possible. I mean hell, Bendis did it to Spider-Man and yet that series just keeps cranking out issues with Miles Morales as the titular character. So keep your wallets at the ready and place your bets.
Personally, I’m hoping out of all of them it will be Oliver. I’m a little sick of him.

This what happens when Western comic artists are influenced by manga/hentai. This sums up how I feel about Japanese artwork. It is sexist, non-proportionate, the facial features make them look like children which goes with my theory of their artists being pedophiles. Plus the whole monster tentacles rubbing their nips? Some things are just so 19th century (NSFW).
And this is what happens when an evolved and respectable art-form is tainted by the lack of quality and sexist manga/hentai. I’ve seen Frank Miller comics that were more respectful towards women.
With both Marvel and DC going full-blown crazy :-) it is more important than ever to pre-order your favorite comic books.
Even the ones you don’t think you have to… even the ones you think are a foregone conclusion… every single comic book need your help.
The comic book industry is on the…
I know some of my friends, and I have been guilty of this in the past, have downloaded comics through torrents and what not. When some very good series got canned not so long ago I heard some of you who DL books for free complain.
Remember, these books cost money to keep them going. Make a pull list at a shop, download back issues on your iPad or Kindle, or just go and buy trades (something that I’ve done with many of the series that I used to pirate).
Comics aren’t in the business of robbing you (well maybe those $3.99 or $4.99 books *shiftyeyesmarvel*) and if you think they’re worth reading than they’re worth supporting.
